My name is James Gabb and I am a freelance composer, producer and sound designer based in York.

Since 2019 I have written music for concert performances, theatre productions, and short films. Most recently, I composed the score for Scarlet, a short film in the film noir genre, combining elements of jazz and Golden Age cinema scores.

I believe that sound and music is crucial for immersion and storytelling, and I strive in exploring the best way to serve a creative vision. My aim is to devise innovative ways to soundtrack a project with detail and precision.

Whilst being proficient in orchestral, piano and electronic scores, I am always eager to explore different styles and instrumentation.

I am a BA Music and Sound Recording graduate of the University of York. In September, I will continue my studies in York through an MA in Music: Composition for Film and Television.
